Today, the Hoover Sun published an article covering the campaign of Mayor Frank Brocato, in which he claims he has “championed livestreaming council and zoning meetings” as part of his efforts to ensure transparency in government. Unfortunately, this statement is simply not true. In fact, in 2022, all council meeting videos were removed under his administration—effectively eliminating public access to past discussions and decisions. That’s not transparency—that’s erasure.

It was I, Robin Schultz, who stepped up when transparency was taken away. I created The Hoover Channel in 2022 to restore public access to council meetings. I didn’t just talk about transparency—I delivered it. And in August 2024, I helped to author the resolution that mandates livestreaming of both Council Meetings and Work Sessions, ensuring that residents could see and hear how their city operates in real time. As of today, Planning and Zoning meetings remain unstreamed, despite being previously available. That’s a responsibility the mayor has failed to carry forward.
While I am not running for mayor, misleading claims like these directly impact the work I’ve done—and the trust I’ve earned. Campaigning for public office should be rooted in truth and in staying within your lane. When one candidate tries to take credit for another’s hard work, it undermines not just campaigns—but public confidence. Hoover deserves leaders who back their words with action. I’ll continue to do exactly that.
